Career day, part 2

Intern Denyce Johnson gets extra credit with her follow-up blog showcasing the specialized care that clients get from Jodi Serafin, RDN, CDCES when they choose Chesapeake Nutrition Company.

What's a CDCES?

CDCES stands for Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist. This credential was formerly known as Certified Diabetes Educator, or CDE. Individuals with this credential provide education and support for people affected by diabetes, as well as prevention techniques to people who are at risk of being diagnosed with diabetes.

The credential of CDCES requires at least two years of experience in select health disciplines and a minimum of 1,000 hours providing diabetes care and education. Once practice hours have been completed, an individual is eligible for the Certification Examination.

The goal of credentialed individuals is to promote competence in diabetes self-management, giving patients tools for success and optimal health. After becoming diagnosed with diabetes, complications and other chronic illnesses may follow. CDCES credentialed individuals help patients to manage diabetes and complications while striving for a high quality of life.
